Harry Potter Apologizes For His Awkward Snogging

Fancy a snog?

Romance and passion on the silver screen usually look more fluid and magical than they do in real life, and the recent Harry Potter sequel is no exception to that rule. In New York recently to discuss Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the three main stars briefly got caught up in discussing their various “snogging” scenes, a topic that has had many filmgoers buzzing.

When addressing rumors of a filmed kissed between onscreen wizards Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley that did not make it into Half-Blood Prince, co-star Emma Watson replied, “I think there might have been a small misunderstanding. There’s a kissing scene in the seventh film, and this is the sixth one. It isn’t that we did it, it was s**t and it didn’t make it.” She laughed, adding, “We did the scene about two weeks ago.”

“It was not something we were really looking forward to,” confessed co-star Rupert Grint. “It was a strange thing to have to think about doing. But I think it worked in the end.”

Watson stated that director David Yates does not normally let them watch video playback of their scenes, but in this case he did. “Rupert and I were quite nervous that it might look disingenuous as we were so desperate to get it over with,” she joked. “Rupert and I felt the pressure of this kiss [because] there is so much media interest. This was ten years worth of tension and hormones and chemistry in one moment, and we had to ace it. I’m sure you’ll critique it, so please be nice.”

The comments inspired star Daniel Radcliffe to jump in and discuss Harry Potter’s kiss with Ginny Weasley. “To be honest with you, I think yours will come out very well,” he said to Watson and Grint before directing his attention to Bonnie Wright, his onscreen love interest. “Poor Bonnie, who’s sitting down at the other end of the table and obviously has the kiss with me. I saw the [new] film again at the premiere, and my God, my lips are like the lips of a horse extending away independently from my face to try to encompass the lower half of hers. So I apologize.”

Ms. Wright did not look upset.
