Guilty Pleasure: Hawaii Five-O, The Reboot

I shouldn’t like this show — especially as remakes and reboots usually annoy me — but I do. Original series star Jack Lord may be rolling over in his grave as I admit that. (He might even be screaming from beyond, “Book ‘em, Danno!” to my confession of this guilty pleasure.) Yet while other upcoming cop shows this fall are going for a grittier look at the world of law enforcement — ABC’s Detroit 1-8-7 and CBS’ Blue Bloods, specifically — CBS’ reimagined Hawaii Five-O is over-the-top, super adrenalized…and a lot of fun.
Having a cast that includes Alex O’Loughlin (Moonlight), Scott Caan (the Oceans Eleven movies), Daniel Dae Kim (Lost) and Grace Park (Battlestar Galactica) — helps sell this one. In fact, it is their likability and interplay that makes this so pleasurable to watch. And O’Loughlin (the new Steve McGarrett) doing many of his own stunts is impressive, too.
Take a sneak peek at the trailer below and see for yourself. I’ve seen a “rough cut” of the pilot — brash Iron Man-style opening and all — and it’s slick, smart, high octane entertainment. We’ll see where it goes from there. I expect big ratings at the outset. It will hopefully debut in September.
By the way, CBS has episodes online from the original show that you can watch here. Or you can collect the DVD sets as well.

I am so excited about this show – with Alex O’Loughlin as Steve it has to be fantastic, and the previews I have seen are awesome. Can’t wait for fall!
