Who: Austin Winkler, frontman for Hinder.
What: The Top 5 songs and/or albums on his turntable right now.
Where: Los Angeles.
Latest Album: All American Nightmare.
1. THE YARDBIRDS “I’m A Man” (from Having A Rave Up) — “I love everything about the Yardbirds. [sings the riff] It’s that classic, old, almost every song sounds the same [vibe], but I just dig the shit out of it. To me, nothing really beats like vinyl. It all sounds like AM radio, and it all sounds so loose.”
2. THE ROLLING STONES “Under My Thumb” (from the Hot Rocks compilation) — “You put the Rolling Stones in your iPod now, and its so loose. I love the jangly Keith Richards [style]. He goes in there and plays it once. ‘Think we can get another one from you, Keith?’ ‘No, that’s how I played it. That’s how it’s going to stay. I’m going to go get high.'”
3. GRAND FUNK RAILROAD Live Album — “It’s the first live record that I ever heard, and I’ve always just been intrigued by it.” (Listen to “Are You Ready”.)
4. AEROSMITH Toys In The Attic — “It’s too hard to pick one [song to highlight]. It’s an amazing album.” (Listen to the title track.)
5. HEART “Crazy On You” (from Dreamboat Annie) — “That song’s fucking great. She sounds really pissed. I saw her do that back in May, and she still just sounds great, dude.”
Wow…that is an impressive list. Not what I would expected at all from Mr. Winkler. By the way, if you haven’t checked out the new Hinder CD, you ought to give it a try. It is pretty good.
Excellent choices – Toys in the Attic is one of my personal favorites.
I like the new Hinder album, but I like the one before it a lot better. Still, good stuff guys. Don’t let the ratings shape who y’all are. Amazing band!
Kick ass list, Austin. And Rob, the new album is more than pretty good, it’s fuckin’ rockin’!!
Awesome list!! Definitely Austin!! The new album is golden!! By far my fave album of 2010!!! And I gotta say I never thought I’d like any Hinder album as much as the first one…I was wrong…All American Nightmare is where it’s at…just keeps getting better and better!! <3
Interesting…I actually have 2 out of the 5 albums listed. I think Grand Funk Railroad’s is great, though…my rockin’ mom blasted their music on her stereo when I was a kid.
Great list…..Austin is an awesome guy…loved the insight into what he is listening to….great article!!!
