The term “social media” instantly invokes visions of Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and other interactive online forums where people virtually hobnob, flirt and fling insults from behind the safety of a computer screen. But the concept, regardless of what it was called when, dates back over 80 years and through various media as this colorful slideshow from PeopleBrowsr shows. It makes one wonder how the concept will be redefined over the course of the next decade or two. It also proves that no matter what technology comes along, we will always use it to reach out to other people.
