Is that a trailer for a James Franco film featuring power metal? Yes, yes it is.
To be fair, this is a collection of clips dating back a couple of years, but it hints at what would and is to come. Co-directors Franco and Ian Olds have reportedly taken footage from Franco’s 50-episode run on General Hospital between late 2009 and late 2011 to create the movie Franchophrenia, which will premiere at this year’s Rotterdam International Film Festival (which takes place between January 25th and February 5th) in their Spectrum programme. Also called Don’t Kill Me, I Know Where the Baby Is, the script for this “humorous psycho-thriller” was created from existing footage. That’s crafty. The character Franco portrays (Robert “Franco” Frank) is a photographer and serial killer who torments mob hitman Jason Morgan (played by Steve Burton). You know that just won’t end well.
The best part of the trailer? The use of power metal, specifically the song “New Legend” by Japanese band Galneryus. Is Franco a genre fan, and will he one day play a rocker onscreen? You never know.
