Pop metal icon Lita Ford has inked a worldwide deal with SPV/Steamhammer, with her first new studio album in nearly three years, Living Like A Runaway, due out in May 2012. The album title, obviously a play on her time with The Runaways, where her career began in the late Seventies with ex-bandmate Joan Jett, should excite fans craving new Lita tunes. The singer and guitarist has only released one other studio album, 2009’s Wicked Wonderland, since 1995. Ford has played out live since 2008 after a long spell of remaining low key and focusing on raising her family.

“SPV gets who I am, my work and what it takes to bring this project to life. I’m very excited to have them on my team,” Ford said in a new SPV press release. With regards to working on the new album with guitarist/producer Gary Hoey and referring to the title, she remarked, “Gary Hoey and I wanted to approach this record by getting back to basics. We want to strip away all the electronics and plug-ins and keep it to vocals, guitar, bass and drums. Going back to basics is going back to what punk, metal and The Runways was for me. ‘Living Like A Runaway’ means freedom and empowerment. To do what I want and to pursue my dreams while answering to no one.”

SPV is pleased with the deal. A&R Representative/Product Manager Olly Hahn said: “When I bought Dancin’ On The Edge back in 1984, I never thought that I would ever sign Lita Ford to a label. But a dream of mine came true, and it’s a huge honor for us at SPV/Steamhammer to have one of the leading women in Rock n’ Roll on our label.”
