You can’t keep a good ghost down. Fourteen years after the original Ringu became a hit in Japan, spawning three sequels and two American remakes, Sadako is back and ready to jump out at you in 3D. Shock Till You Drop has poster the trailer for the new 3D incarnation, viewable below, which will be released by Kadokawa Shoten in Japan this May. The author of the original book and screenplay, Koji Suzuki, penned this new terror tale, and Tsutomu Hanabusa directed it. Allegedly there are plans to revive the American franchise as well.

The plot, according to Shock Till You Drop, is as follows: “Akane is a high school teacher who hears a rumor from her students that there is actual footage on the Internet of someone’s suicide. The footage is said to drive anyone who sees it to also commit suicide. Akane does not believe the rumor at first, but when one of her female students dies after viewing the footage, she and her boyfriend Takanori are fatefully drawn into the horror that has been created by the man who appears in the suicide footage, Kashiwada. Kashiwada’s intention is to create chaos in the world by bringing back Sadako and the power of her curse. Now Akane has to fight against Sadako and Kashiwada to save the lives of herself and Takanori.”

I’m not sure how I feel about yet another Ringu or Ring film, but having two antagonists is an interesting twist, and the 3D aspect might actually play well here. The spooky short trailer admittedly looks intriguing. Take a peek, if you dare.
