He’s undertaken many grand adventures over his nearly 20-year career, but this December our favorite paranormal crime-fighter is going south of the border. Way south. As Dark Horse Comics publicist Aub Driver reveals: “After saving the world in The Storm and the Fury, but sacrificing himself and Great Britain, Hellboy is dead, cast into Hell, where he finds many familiar faces, and a throne that awaits him!” Hey, it’s actually where he hails from, so it should be an interesting trip home.
Creator/writer Mike Mignola recently told IO9 about his vision of Hell: “The fast and easy answer is that Hell is made of everything that I’ve wanted to draw, forever. It’s certainly not all pits of fire — there is a big pit of fire — and there will be periodically other things on fire, I’m sure. But it’s not a one-dimensional, cartoon, devils-poking-guys-with-pitchforks kind of Hell. I’m debating drawing a map of my Hell. It has specific locations and geography, but it’s an open-ended enough world. It’s designed to be a place where I can set all the stories I’d like to do from now on.”
