Tonight We’re Gonna Party Like It’s 3009
by Bryan Reesman on Sep.02, 2010, under Animated, Sci-Fi, TV Tales, Technobabble
Thankfully Futurama has been given a second shot at weekly series life, and because it already amassed a sizable collection of episodes with its previous five seasons (if you include those four recent feature-length movies), the mirthful, animated sci-fi spectacle celebrates its 100th episode tonight. It also happens to be the sixth season finale. Having caught some of the new episodes already, it’s obvious that the writers still have fresh ideas, whether parodying the cult of Apple (if that’s how you view it) or hypothesizing how outer space cats were actually the aliens that brought advanced technology to mankind (hey, it could have happened).
Here are two sneak peeks at tonight’s episode, which airs tonight at 10 PM EST on Comedy Central and includes a great cameo by Devo. And here’s to 100 more!

Dinner With A Side Of Music
by Bryan Reesman on Aug.18, 2010, under Music Musings, TV Tales
Cooking shows have become popular with foodies, and IFC’s Dinner With The Band offers an unusual twist on the genre. Host Sam Mason is a laid back, tattooed chef who show offs his culinary skills to the music peeps he admires and invites down to his Brooklyn kitchen set. They assist in the food prep, plus they perform before and after the meal to a select crowd in the modest living room adjacent to the kitchen. Recent guests have included Rufus Wainwright, The Devil Makes Three and Andrew W.K. (I’m hoping that Alice Cooper, Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony will show up with BBQ, tequila and hot sauce someday.)
I spoke with Mason recently about his food TV venture for a story in the summer 2010 issue of GRAMMY Magazine. Check it out.

Rob Halford Plays…A Priest!
by Bryan Reesman on Aug.07, 2010, under Hard Rock & Metal, Music Musings, TV Tales
I’ve always thought that Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford would make a good actor, and with his cameo in a new Virgin Mobile commercial, he takes a step in that direction, playing (naturally) a priest about to sermonize a flock of texting Crackberry junkies. This is not the first time the legendary screamer has been on camera outside of the music video world. He had a cameo as a porn store clerk in Jonus Åkerlund’s 2002 film Spun co-starring Mickey Rourke, voiced the characters of General Lionwhyte and The Baron in the Brutal Legend video game and has appeared on the reality shows Nitro Circus and Gene Simmons: Family Jewels. Who knows? Maybe Hollywood or Broadway is next. With a potential Judas Priest tour for the metal opera Nostradamus in development, the thought is not so far fetched.

The Return Of Benjamin Linus
by Bryan Reesman on Aug.07, 2010, under Sci-Fi, TV Tales
Lost fans have been debating the series finale from this past May; many praising and many lamenting the way it all wrapped up. But the story is not over as a 12-minute epilogue will be included in both the Season 6 and Series Box Set releases coming out on August 24th.
While I was unsatisfied with how many of the plot points were not resolved, I was also very moved by the ending. But I had said before the finale aired that even if it was terrible, I still would have enjoyed the ride that I took with the show because I loved the characters. And you know what? I still do.
For those of you anxious to get more Lost and Ben Linus, here is a preview of that final chapter (courtesy of my Disney peeps), which takes place at the Dharma Logistics Warehouse in Guam. Yes, Guam.
